Vietnam War: North/Communist Vietnam Cryptology Official History NSA English Translation 

A National Security Agency translation of a 1990 Vietnamese People's Army's publication, "History of the Cryptographic Branch of the People's Army of Viet Nam, 1945-1975." (Hanoi: People’s Army Publishing House).

Contains both a 2017 (182 pages) and a 1994 (205 pages) edition of the NSA’s translation.

Includes Notes on the Translation and an introduction covering North Vietnamese cryptology by its translator David W. Gaddy. Gaddy was the founder and first Chief of NSA’s Center for Cryptologic History. 

He began his career in cryptology as a cryptanalyst (foreign language) in 1953 and served in a variety of staff and line management capacities before being given the opportunity to create the Center for Cryptologic History in 1989 and heading it during its first three years. Mr. Gaddy was a charter member of the Senior Cryptologic Executive Service and a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and the National War College.

The introduction in Vietnamese of the Vietnamese People's Army's publication translates to English as, “The History of the PAVN Cryptographic Branch is written to cover the building and activities of the army cryptographic branch from the resistance against French colonialism through the national salvation opposition to America (1945–1975).
