American Victims of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima 1945

A 400-page vertical file compiled by the Department of Defense in 2009 of material covering American victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima 1945, mostly American POWs who were in Hiroshima when the Atomic bomb was dropped.

The crews of at least four United States aircraft were shot down near Hiroshima, Japan, in the summer of 1945. While some crewmembers did not survive their crashes, at least twelve survived and became prisoners of war.

Composed of a Department of a Defense history sourced from Missing Air Crew Reports 14758 and 14990, Naval Action Reports 137387, 137714, and 138702, group mission reports, and the Individual Deceased Personnel Files (IDPF) Under their names, along with copies of  reports, newspaper articles, interview transcripts, and miscellaneous material.
