Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. (March 8, 1841 – March 6, 1935) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1902 to 1932. Holmes served in the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment of the Union Army from 1861-1864. During his senior year at Harvard University the Civil War began. Holmes enlisted in the fourth battalion, Massachusetts militia.
He later received a commission as first lieutenant in the Twentieth Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Holmes saw action during the Peninsula and Wilderness Campaigns. He received wounds at the Battle of Ball's Bluff, Antietam, and Fredericksburg.
The scrapbook contains letters and notes, hand drawn illustrations, and newspaper and magazine article clippings.
